Virginia requires a contractor license from DPOR for jobs over $1,000, and you can look up any license on DPOR's free License Lookup. Ask for the license number on the contract, proof of liability insurance, a written estimate that names the gutter size and guard product, the warranty in writing, and a payment schedule. DPOR suggests a down payment of about 10% for a standard job.
